The English Tea Room

Today Grandma Irene took my mom, Owyn and I to The English Tea Room.

I love feeling like a girl.

Bon Iver in Mesa

{doesn't Dave look happy. Ha}

We had such a good time at the show last night. It was at the Mesa Arts Center.

The musicians were incredibly talented and it was so entertaining.

I hate to admit this but I felt like crying when Justin (J-man) started to sing. Sooo lame I know. I felt like a 7 year old girl at a Jonas Brothers concert.

Potting

My new experiment.

Phoenix Hard Rock + Yellow Minute

Friday Dave had a show with Yellow Minute at the Hard Rock Cafe.

It was so hard getting their because its across from the ballpark which had a game going on and everything was blocked off. I'm pretty sure we pulled a few illegal moves trying to get up to the loading door. But once we got there we had sooo much fun.

Mommy and Me Yoga

{photo via flickr}
Every Friday me and Owyn have yoga class. It's wonderful! Owyn is the youngest little one.

I get time to meet other new moms and do yoga while involving my son. It's great bonding for us and Owyn loves it.

We also do baby yoga where we do stretches and exercises on our babies. Last Friday Owyn fell right to sleep after doing leg exercises that massage the intestines. Then he pooped. It was loud and embarrassing. We learn all sorts of ways to sooth colic and constipation.

A Special Birthday for a Special Man.

Today is Dave's birthday.

I tried to make it as special as can be. Even though I pressured him into opening his special gift last weekend. hehe...

{I made Owyn a B-day onsesie. His idea}

I made steak cause it's his favortie. I also made icetea, a walnut salad and garlic greenbeans and walnuts.

We finished the special meal off with a red velvet (with walnuts, see a theme??) cake because Dave called me from work one day a few weeks ago and told me he likes red velvet cake. ha.

Cashew Chicken

Serves 4

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, such as safflower
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 scallions, white and green parts separated, each cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 3/4 cup raw cashews (4 ounces), toasted
  • White rice, for serving (optional)

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, toss chicken with cornstarch until chicken is coated; season with 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
  2. In a large nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium-high heat. Cook half the chicken, tossing often, until browned, about 3 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Add remaining oil and chicken to skillet along with the garlic and white parts of scallions. Cook, tossing often, until chicken is browned, about 3 minutes. Return first batch of chicken to pan. Add vinegar; cook until evaporated, about 30 seconds.
  4. Add hoisin sauce and 1/4 cup water; cook, tossing, until chicken is cooked through, about 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in scallion greens and cashews. Serve immediately over white rice, if desired.

Yellow Minute

As I sit here alone with the sleeping Barnslig late at night waiting for Dave to come home I am getting bored.

He is out practicing with the band he's in, Yellow Minute, because they have a show tomorrow night.

I feel likes it's been a while since Ive seen them play.

Here's a video of the song Chapter Two.

Another Weekend Gone

These weekends go by too fast.

I hope yours was as pleasant as ours.

How Owyn got his nickname.

Today we took Owyn to the place we got his nickname from. Ikea

If you hadn't caught on, we call Owyn Barnslig.

Little baby Barnslig.

Baby boy Barnslig.

But, but, but.. Barnslig. (we say that when he starts crying)

There is a particular way to say it though. The "r" is silent. {bon-slig}

We always refer to him by this. Sometimes I forget it's not his name.

It came from a baby line at Ikea. We got this baby bedding for him before he was born and we have been referring to him by this ever since.

He wasn't really that interested.

He is however becoming a ..

fat baby Barnslig!

Vintage Baby

Now that Owyn is getting bigger he has been able to fit into the adorable t-shirts Dave's mom gave us from when her boys were babies. Sooo cute.

{his hair has thinned so much and now it points up into a mohawk}

The Hodge Podge

Look what mom found in Manitou Springs, Colorado!

Pretty neat Mom! You can read about her hodgepodge experience here.

hodge-podge: [hoj-poj]
- noun
a heterogeneous mixture; jumble

ABC's

I found these adorable Martha Stewart alphabet cards today at Micheals. I love them because they associate letters with unusual things. When do you see urchin used for a U? So cool. I love teaching Owyn new things and these are sooo perfect.

I got them for Owyn's room but his walls are full.

What to do, what to do....

p.s. Martha Stewart goods are 30% off there right now.

Does Baby Gap Need any Models?

If so I have the perfect boy in mind...

He just has a little growing to do.

Labor Day Weekend

I love three day weekends!

I get to spend extra time with my family <3

Friday night I started my labor day weekend celebrating the birthday of my dear friend Kylie. We went to Ra where another one of my best friend works so I got to see two best friends in one night. We've been best friends since freshman year of highschool! So many memories..

Today we decided to get out so we went to four peaks. We had a nice time hanging out in the heat under the misters.

The rest of our weekend was spent hanging around the house trying to make Owyn smile. He's so serious all the time. We're trying to teach him how to lighten up.

Dear Fall,

First things first, I love you.

I say Spring is my favorite but that's only because it's my birthday season. You are really my fav.

I know you are just around the corner. I might not see you or feel you yet considering I live in an asphalt covered metropolis in the middle of a desert but I know you are near.

Can you please speed it up a bit and come soon? I want to take Owyn on walks.

Until your arrival we'll be waiting in bed. Taking picture.

Story Time with Owyn

When Owyn was just a small fetus we started reading to him. Towards the end of his life in the womb we were reading him a goodnight story every night.

I recently figured out just how much he still loves being read to. Yesterday nothing could get him to sleep but a story.

He's so good at paying attention and he loves to look at the pictures.
