if this doesn't make you happy, you must be pretty miserable.

This is a video I took of owyn at the park one day after work last week. Please excuse my man voice.

Wait for the moment owyn is suddenly taken back by a plane flying overhead. He attention span is quite limited.

Lovely weekend

This weekend was kinda crazy.
When the week ended I told myself and Dave that I have to work on school.
So what happened this weekend? Well, we woke up Saturday morning, I made breakfast and we started cleaning. I cleaned the entire house while Dave and Owyn took care of the yard. After I was done with the inside and Owyn was fed and put down for a nap, I joined Dave outside and we gutted our side yard.

Yeah, you remember, our jungle?

The one that used to look like this:

Well, now it looks like this:

This is what progress looks like! Now we just need to dispose of the trimmings.
There was a huge dead tree that was laying directly across the water path for our irrigation (it blew over in the last big storm). The tree was so heavy Dave had to saw it into pieces and move it aside.

After we got to a good stopping point, we moved to the front yard and trimmed everything. Our house doesn't look as abandoned anymore. It's great. The rest of the day I avoided schoolwork.

Sunday I was really bad. I went to work until 2 and then we went to a friend's daughters birthday party and stayed way than we intended and then our friends came home with us and we sat around chatting, drinking and watching movies. Before I knew it is was 11pm, the weekend was over and I didn't do an ounce of what I needed to do. I suck.

Do you ever get so stressed out that you can't get yourself to do the things you need to? I'm about there right now. Today I took Owyn and the dog into the back yard to preoccupy them while I studied.

This is about the time I was contemplating "accidentally" letting Mitzi out:

ugh, that dog drives me nuts sometimes. especially when she has gas.

Back to work..
If I don't post much this week, it's because I found motivation deep within me.

Fail Proof Toddler Snacks

Howdy. I still don't have pictures from the weekend, but I do have pictures of food!

Did you know that we have a hard time getting Owyn to eat? It's true. He never wants to eat. He only wants to play Dave is pretty serious about not giving Owyn sugar. Sugar is a parents worst nightmare! Owyn doesn't even get juice. He eats lots of fruits and vegetables but doesn't drink juice. Last week my grandma picked up Chick-fil-a for everyone at my house and Owyn got a kids meal with an apple juice. He was in heaven. Last week I bought him some toddler apple juice, but I add the same amount of water to it. He doesn't know the difference. To him, its better than water! We both win.

Because of our little problem, I've compiled a selection of fail proof snacks. The ones that Owyn will eat if he's hungry or not.

1. raisins (I tell him it's candy and he believes me) 2. cereal bars 3. raw trail mix 4. kids cliff bar 5. pickles 6. edamame 7. brie cheese (when he's feelin' fancy) 8. hard boiled eggs.

Oh, the life of a tod. It must be so difficult.

Date Night

Dave and I had a smokin' hot date night on Saturday.
We went to a CD release party that was awesome. It reminded me of the old days.
For you who are new to the blog, you might not know that Dave is an incredibly talented musician. Until Owyn was born he was in 2 great bands. I used go out to see him play every weekend. Even when I was pregnant. I love going out and being reminded of what it was that brought us together. We have such a good time together.

We fell in love with two bands we've never seen before Paper Bird and March Forth Marching Band. Paper Bird was incredible and March Forth was the most entertaining band I've ever seen. Ever. They had sexy dancers that got the entire crowd shakin' their thangs (including us of course!) and men on stilts! Stilts! The headliner was Dry River Yacht Club. Click on my links and check them out! You'll love them... if you can appreciate great music.
 (Droid pics)

I I left my memory card at home so I wasn't able to take pics with my camera while we were out but we did take some silly ones when we got home. I especial love this one because I look like I'm wasted but I'm not at all, only super exhausted and Dave caught me at just the right moment while makin a Trader Joe's pizzzza. I had two Blue Moons and it was glorious.

(I was hesitant about even posting this "wasted" pic but I had to just to get a rise out of my dad. I'll be expecting a call at any moment now...)

I took two right after to prove my eyes weren't stuck like that

Sometimes I feel bad that Dave was instantly sucked out of the whole "scene" and given a bunch of responsibilities. But most times I think, dang he's a lucky guy to have everything he does, like me! ha! He is slowly starting to record on his own and once I'm done with school he will be able to devote a lot more time to it. Hopefully.

When we were on our way home I asked him,

"does it make you sad to go out and see all those people still playing shows when you're not?"

and he responded,

"no because I watch Owyn grow up everyday and that's way better. I'd tell people that, but they just wouldn't understand."

Being a parent myself, to the same kid non the less, I knew exactly what he meant. And then we went on and on about all the awesome things Owyn does. Like how me pops my back like his daddy does. He even counts to three before he pushes. It's hilarious.

Saturdays Around the House

taking self portraits, cuddling and blogging is so much better than writing papers.

Guess who has a hot date tonight??
ME!

I'll take a girl pleeeease.

Sometimes I think I want a girl next, but only for my own selfish reasons.  For the kids sake, I hope it'll be a boy so they'll have someone to knock around. And then Ill have a girl. But when I see things like this, I think, heck, It's my life, bring on the bows!

Did you know I hate those big flower things moms put on their little girls heads? My g-ma taught me that hate is a nasty word so I only use it when I really mean it. I don't know who ever told moms they are cute but I think it was to make her baby girl look way cuter than theirs. I think they are super tacky. When I see head bands like these from Zuii I really wonder why moms would ever think about taking a huge silk flower from, my favorite, hobby lobby (joke) and stick it on a headband. Where are these dads anyway?

At any rate, no offense if you like them, or use them.

and just so you know, we are not thinking about having any other kids soon, I just like baby things and I bought one of these headbands for my sweet niece Lady Ry.

I Heart Mondays

I heart Mondays because I have no obligations outside of the house.
Unless there's doctor appointment or something.

It's my day off but Dave works, so Owyn and I like to get into trouble.
But, shhhh, don't tell him that.

A few things we like to do:

Stay in our pj's all day

Put Owyn to work so when Dave comes home, he gives me the credit

Play in our side yard/jungle. (I swear someday soon this will be our garden!)
spread out my research project all over the living room during nap time.....

while nap time looks like this in Owyn's room
I wonder how long he was up?

We did end up leaving the house. All Owyn wanted to do was go outside and it was driving me nuts. So instead we took a 2 hour Target trip and spent money on dumb things that I never would have spent money on if it weren't for me trying to waste time.

We love our Mondays.
Now, back to work :)

Weekend Roundup

So a few really great things happened this weekend.

Friday was my sister's birthday!
I miss my sister and can't wait to see her and her babies ( Riley and chihuahua Lola).
Also, I received a letter from the Dean of the Herberger school of art and design that my petition for concurrent majors has been revised and approved. Most of you already know that I've been working on doing concurrent majors for a while but I had to be approved in order to pursue them both at the same time. Well, I have finally been approved! I am SO excited! This means that when I graduate in May I will be graduating with 2 BA's. One in Art History and the other in Museum Studies. It's crazy to me that I will have 2 degrees. I guess 5 years of college isn't so bad.

I also had to work for 14 hours on Friday. That wasn't so awesome.
I worked at the museum 8:30-5 and then went straight to Lucky. At the museum I had to give 3 back-to-back tours to middle school kids. It was hell! They were so badly behaved and I have no balls so they walked all over me. By the third tour I didn't even give the kids all the information I had, I let them run around the museum and I toured the teacher that was with them. The kids kept asking me about every inappropriate piece we had, like the mice porn and nude pictures from Andy Warhol. I don't understand how they find these inappropriate pieces. I stay away from them and they still find them! One kid took a poster he had in his hand and pushed it against a photo in the Andy Warhol collection. I flipped out. I wasn't nice after that. They also asked me if I get paid and how much.

On a happier note, we recently started a new tradition. Saturday breakfast. Dave often makes us a big breakfast on Saturday mornings and now I've started to participate as well, mostly because I make things like pancakes. Dave has been asking me to make french toast and I finally did this week.

I'm bringing the braid back! I used to use a braid all the time, just to make a quick up-do less boring due to a lack of time to do my hair. Lately I've been taking the time to wash and style my hair but so many people keep telling me that they miss my braids and want me to wear them again.

A Baby Shower

My friend Kylie put together this precious baby shower for our fried Brittany.
Good thing I choose Kylie to be a brides maid, hint hint ;)

If you haven't guessed already, Brittany's having a boy. HA, just kidding, It's a girl!

I also took some maternity pictures for Brittany a few weeks ago.  I'm still not done editing them, because I'm an aweful friend, but they will be done very soon! And I will add all of the baby shower pictures, Britt!

Here's one picture of the adorable family:
