Migrating in Packs

There is nothing I find more amusing than anything that travels in packs. Especially if they are in sync.

For instance,
motorcycle cops traveling together = funny!

Another thing I love about Dave... knowing how much I love this stuff, when he saw these 4 segwayers riding down the street and I missed them, he turned around and hunted them down Mission Bay so I could see them.

Show me something this funny and I will pee my pants. Not like that's anything out of the ordinary these days.

A Sunday Afternoon in SD

On Sunday Dave and I sneaked off from the house full of visiting guests and took a drive to La Jolla. I so wish we had Southern California weather.

A Garden Reception

The reception was held in a neighbors beautiful garden. Everyone had such a great time. It was a very relaxed wedding. Easy listening music, close friends and family, soft lighting, lots of wine, and my favorite, street tacos. I wish I took more pictures but I was busy eating my tacos. It's one of my favorite things in the world.

I loved the centerpiece. Sand lined the middle of the tables with shells and candles placed on top. And we figured out that the favors are not soap on a rope, they are candles, so do not try washing your body with them. By the end of the night everyone had wax all over the cloths. What is it with people playing with candle wax?

For the toast Dom Perignon was passed out to everyone, other than to the non drinkers who had cider. I have never even seen a bottle of Dom Perignon so I was not going to pass up the opportunity to taste it. Sooo... as I was helping pass out the glasses, I helped myself to one and placed it at my seat. They say a small amount is okay and it's not like it was a shot of jack or anything. I don't regret it. It was so good. I am not a chamagne drinker, but if it was Dom everytime I would be.

A Beach Ceremony

This is Dad and Wendy moments before the ceremony. The night was perfect. The whole bunch walked down together from the house to the beach where the ceremony was performed.

As much as I did not want to wear my baby shower dress, I could not find anything else that 'beachy', but it worked out great.

Dad's neighbor who collects cars picked them up on the way back to the house for a spin in one of his early 1900's Rolls Royce. It was an awesome car. Best thing about it was the horn.

The Essence of Us

(April 08)

One thing I love about Dave is not only how much he adores me, but how obvious he makes it. It took me a while to get used to his affectionate ways, but after realizing what I had, I started to soak it in. He is the guy takes takes your hand and kisses it in public. The guy that tells you how much he loves you at least 5x a day. The guy that catches your eye from across a room full a people and gives you a reassuring look that makes you feel like you're the only one in the room.

Now that the baby is only 8 weeks away I am enjoying every second of it because we don't have much longer until our focus goes elsewhere. I'm trying to do my best to smother him with love and affection.

This journey has already changed our relationship so much. I am interested to see where this new life will take us.

I'm optimistic.

A Hop, Skip and a Jump

We're heading off to Dad's house again this Friday in Point Loma for his and Wendy's beach wedding.

(^the invitation^)

The wonderful thing about going to see them is that it's not the usual visiting family situation. It's more like the ultimate beach vacation. Perfect views and just a hop, skip and a jump away form the water. At no cost.

Something tells me I won't be getting into a kayak this time. :(

Baby Update

We are currently in our 31st week.
I am beginning to get uncomfortable and tired. I can't stand for too long without my feet throbbing and legs tingling. Naps and Daves hands have been a life saver. I also started getting the braxton hicks which was a very strange feeling. I first thought he must be pushing his little butt butt up against my belly while trying stretching out. But then it continued, so I ruled that out and asked the doctor. Another wonderful thing I've been getting is really bad heart burn. I already have severe acid reflux and have suffered with esophogitis so any extra acid really hearts my poor torn up esophogus.

This baby is so active. I think I'm in for trouble. It seems as though he's awake all the time. He has now found my ribs. He likes to stick his knee underneath the right set, making it hard for me to bend down. Silly boy. I try to push it back down but it never works.

The last appointment was Thursday. It was pretty boring. Our next appointment is June 16th and we will be having our last ultra sound. I can't wait to see his cute little face again! After that appointment we go again around the 30th and then once a week.

This Wednesday we start our Birth Basics and Breathing class. I am really excited to go and get prepared for the big day. Im not so excited however to spend 3 Wednesdays in a class for 3 hours at a time. I'm going to sign up for the Breastfeeding class for myself and Daddy Bootcamp for Dave, just for extra preparation.

The time has come to get prepared!

The Most Beautiful Wedding

This weekend my sister Whitney celebrated her one year anniversary with her husband Josh. This gives me the opportunity to post picture to remember how pretty and perfect the wedding was.

This Weekend...

Dave... played a roof top show at the Wyndham Hotel down town.
It was so fun, there were people swimming, eating, drinking and enjoying the music. Finding a place to park that didn't cost $12 was hard, but I really enjoyed being in the city. And the burger we shared.

I... saw a beautiful butterfly and caught a few good picture of it.

We... brought our cars over to Dave's moms house to give them a bath. Or should I say, for Dave to give them a good bath.

Pool Party Anyone?

Dave has a show tomorrow at The Wyndham Hotel with Yellow Minute.

If you feel like having a blast come stop by and check out this talent I speak of.

How do I know my cowboy will be the cutest??

If he looks anything like his daddy, he will be.

This is Dave back in 1983, and he still wishes he had a mustache as cool as that one and wears western shirts almost everyday.

I can't wait till my little one is running around in cowboy boots and a diaper.

Boredom

This is my current situation lately.

Bored.

It seems like Dave has been busy lately and has a show coming up on Saturday, which leaves me home alone. bored. till late. So I sit here watching Weeds on DVD, eating cookies, going through recipes in Martha Stewart Living and enjoying the flowers he brought home today.

Cut and Paste

I started a new project today.
Ive been needing a better way to organize my magazines and catalogs (my inspiration library I call it). Magazine holders are one of those odd objects you never really think about that can have a high price tag. Instead of paying $10 per holder I bought an inexpensive pack of cardboard holders at Ikea and wrapping paper to jazz them up. What a great idea. Not only did it save a bundle but it's been a fun project to do while watching movies and look how cute they are.

Wild Horse Pass

My Mom and Scott rented rooms at the Wild Horse Pass Resort this weekend and invited us to join them in the sun. We spent all Sunday there with them and other family soaking in the rays. We then went on a special date out to one of our favorite restaurants Thai Basil and returned to the resort to stay overnight and got to spend our Memorial Day lounging by the pools again.

Thank you Mom and Scott for having us.
We had so much fun.

Baby Shower

(Women from my mom's side)

This weekend was my baby shower put on by my Mom and Whitney with the help of my grandmothers. It was the best baby shower. Limited amount of games and no pastel baby decorations. I was surprised to see the turn out. The house was full of friends, family and gifts. I couldn't imagine if everyone showed up who were invited (since a number of people couldn't make it). Thank you to everyone who came it really means a lot to me.

When I got home from the fun, Dave and I went through the gifts and separated them by category into bags. I cannot express how thankful we are to have the help of everyone. We now have everything we need for the baby other than a breast pump.

What a relief.

Thank you so much!

We love you all <3

Projects

I started a new project last night for the nursery .
I put some of the left over fabric from the flags into frames and later I will put something on them. Either letters or silhouettes of animals or something. If you have any ideas let me know!

Weekend Fun

Dad came this weekend and brought the baby stroller.
I love this stroller! It so perfect and not to mention bad ass. We can use it two ways: picture #1 for when the baby is an infant and picture #2 for when he gets bigger.

We are almost 30 weeks!!

All weekend we have been searching for a new place to live since our lease runs up next month. We have a couple options to choose from. Both fantastic but we're waiting for response and weighing our options.

Looking for a place to live is fun.... unless you're pregnant. I have this new friend called motion sickness and it is a very unpleasant relationship. Yesterday as we were driving around looking at properties I got seriously car sick and we had to pull off the road so I could barf. Seriously when does that happen?? Going on a road trip I could understand- driving around town on the other hand, I do not.

We will know by the end of this week where we will be going. I am so excited to move and decorate and nest. I may be hitting up my favorite antique shops frequently in the next month. Yay! I have an excuse to go. If anyone (Elle) wants to go antique hunting with me, call me.

Congrats Grad

(Elle, Me, Ashley and Briana)

Yesterday my dear friend Briana graduated from ASU.
I was so happy to be invited to Maggiano's to celebrate her hard work and success.

The dinner was to no surprise delicious.
Thank you so much to Briana's lovely parents. I had so much fun sitting over on the friend side of the table conversing and joking with good friends. These people had me laughing so hard by the end of the night I was sitting in a puddle. -Okay maybe not literally but almost.

I am so grateful to have these friends.

Nothing Cheers you up like a Flag

This week I have been feeling sad.
Now that I am done with finals, I had to find some way to pick me up. Shopping didn't do the trick this time. Kinda crazy. So today I decided to make a birthday gift for the baby (nameless once again). I went to SAS, picked up some fabric and made this flag banner I saw on this very creative woman's blog. It totally did the trick.

I hung it above daddy's Wurlitzer for now, since baby doesn't have a room yet. I think ill take it to the baby showers. There will be two by the way. One for family and close friends and another casual co-ed with friends who like to PARTY. And once he decides to joins us in this crazy world it will be hanging above his crib to welcome him home. I'm going to put his name on with red or orange letters, once we figure out what that name will be.

I think he'll appreciate it.

Delivery Plans

Today we had our tour at the birthing suites I will be delivering our little baby at. This little adventure got me even more anxious about the arrival.

This place is really the best place I could imagine giving birth at. It is nothing like a hospital. The tour lady said she sees it as a bed and breakfast and that's exactly true. Walking throughout the halls I felt like I was in a hotel. It was so peaceful and quite and everyone there was so nice. The delivery room even has a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom.

I can't wait!

Help!

Out of nowhere Dave thinks he wants to change the name of our unborn son. He shared this proposition with me the other day while going shopping and now I am so torn. I think of him as Elliot but now I like Owen. Dave thinks Owen sounds better with Joseph and thinks we can name our second son Elliot-if we have one. I'm not putting the last name because my blog isn't private and I need to be careful.

So we really really need your help.
Please leave your comments on what name you like best.

Elliot?

Owen?

Random Baby Excitments

We got the stroller and the car seat I wanted.
This makes me so happy! The stroller was a big deal for me. Becoming a young mom really makes me want to be hip while doing it. Not only that but big strollers and car seats are a huge pain in the butt. This stroller is titanium and super light weight as well as the 8lb. car seat. The seat on the stroller detaches allowing the car seat to simply snap on while my baby is an infant. I am so happy I got these! Thanks to the help of mom and dad.

I can't wait to take him to the zoo in this stroller.

Weekend

Oh it feels so good to sleep in.
I'm going to miss these days once my little man comes into this world to fulfill his duty as a crying alarm clock that does not contain a snooze button. I have not rested since... well, I don't even remember. Before Thursday. Mom was in town this weekend so I got to spend some time with her. As much as I could at least. Every time I got a chance to finally sit Dave was going to do something that sounded too fun to pass up, like go into his work, grocery shop, or have some friends over. I cannot explain how tired I was yesterday. My body was tired, my brain was tired, and I was feeling emotionally drained. I even passed up the opportunity to go to the ballet with my mom and sister before my moms flight home. Once we came home I plopped my lifeless body on the couch while Dave gave me a super long foot massage. One of those that lasts so long you start to wonder how much longer their gonna last but you don't say anything because you want it to continue. Soon after that I passed out while watching the 4th season of Desperate Housewives. After 20-30 minutes passed by I woke up with a full blown cold. I actually think its a sinus infection because the mucus is green. This sickness has been lingering in my sinuses since Friday and decided to hit me last night. So now that I am sick which requires more rest, I have 2 finals to study for and complete. Oh Joy.

And so it Continues

We have been so busy these past few weeks and it's never going to end.
It is only beginning. On top of working the past couple weeks and now Dave new inconvenience I have been trying to get finals complete. The day after we spent the night in the hospital which resulted in no sleep was the day of my ARS412 final. I don't know if any of you have taken an art history class, but they have hard exams. You have to know the time period, what was going on during that time, who the ruler was, what the politics and religion was, what the characteristics were of this time (like in architecture), where the piece came from, how it was found, why it was made and how it was made. Oh and what it means. It's a pain sometimes. Especially myth pieces because they have characters and stories. Any way, fortunately I do well under pressure. There were only 2 out of 50 I wasn't positive about so I'm pretty optimistic about my final grade.

I have 3 more exams to complete. One is today. Oh crap.

I have found a solution to my coffee addiction. My grandma got us a cute new coffee pot (its brown, have you ever seen one of those??) so now I can drink a single cup of coffee opposed to shots of espresso in my lattes which is a lot less caffeine. I bought coffee that is 1/2 decaf to make it easier to completely stop.

So this is what we have going on this month. I think of my weeks as pregnancy weeks.

Week 28- Mom is coming!
She will be here tonight. Her and Whitney will be making baby shower plans and Sunday is Mothers day!

Week 29-Dad and Wendy are coming and finals end

Week 30- Baby shower.
Both parents are coming and both my step sister and Dave's brother graduate from High school.

Week 32-Off to San Diego
It seems a little crazy to get into a car being 32 weeks pregnant but my dad is finally getting married. And then my summer classes begin. I am such a criminal.

Starting in June we'll start seeing the doctor every two weeks. Oh joy! I can't believe how fast this baby is coming. He is growing so much. My belly gets bigger everyday (I am not kidding) and the pounds keep. I want my normal self back sooo bad already. I miss not feeling and eating like a cow.

Update on Dave

Last night was another spent awekened by pain.
When we got up this morning Dave paced the apartment debating on whether he should go back to the ER or not. Considering our experience their he did not want to go back, but what else was he going to do? Everyone would tell him to go to the ER. I feel so bad because I can't do anything to make it better. He went to the Primary Doc. he saw last and it looks like it may be his gallbladder. So Dave is going to get an ultrasound tomorrow and then back to the doctor on Friday morning. Hopefully we'll get some answers. Until then, the doc gave him more pain killers. If the pain gets any worst or is accompanied by a fever, he has strict instructions to go back to the ER.

Nights better spent in slumber: by Dave

Ell-i-ott. . .

So last night was a rather non-refreshing break in the usual routine of eat, sleep, wake up, work, repeat...

It was more like: eat, sleep, wake up painfully at 2am feeling like I had a lung full of broken glass, proceed without delay to the emergency room at Banner, and spend the next 10 hours or so enjoying the finest health care system the world has to offer (so far).

I typically have no problem absorbing discomfort, and I've never been to an ER, but last night I couldn't breathe in or out without feeling like a serrated bread knife was being twisted clockwise into my chest. And it just so happens that I enjoy breathing painlessly. So I bit the bullet and went to the ER. (Thank you for the ride, sweetheart.)

How not to act:
When we arrived there were a few people already waiting, and some in line ahead of us. Then through the doors came a waddling gray-haired douche bag wearing a mildly sinister moustache. He demanded to know how long the wait time was as if he owned the place, in which there was no real answer from the staff. Understandably so, as conditions and situations in the ER can change quite rapidly and without warning. He was not content with the answer he received, but decided to wheel his seabeast girlfriend inside anyhow. Apparently she had blown out her knee while heaving the last barrel of Crisco down her gaping gullet... but she was moving around and rather upbeat about the whole situation in spite. He however, was not.

While in the waiting room with us, this blue ribbon go-getter made it his business to speak to everyone in the room about their wait time and condition (even going so far as waking people from their sleep), as if their myriad of specific cases could somehow gague his experience there. His negativity really got to me... it was the kind of passive aggressive negativity that I specialize in: said with a smile, laced heavily with cynicism. And as guilty as I am of doing the exact same thing, I do my best to leave strangers, especially the suffering, out of it. But like nails on a 60 year old chalkboard, he made damn sure that his voraciously snide comments about the long waits and standard ER procedure permeated the room, more than loud enough to be heard by staff and patients alike. As cold and unresponsive as I was to his tired comments and banter, he offered me some of his swine flu water, tainted with the grossness of generations... when all I wanted to do was throttle his blubbery throat lifeless. After about 5 minutes, they left.

How I speak of these people may seem mean-spirited or downright hateful, but had you been there and witnessed the situation yourself, you might say I'm describing the whole thing quite rationally and truthfully. I don't know why I let that episode get to me so much. Perhaps it's not that one person or event, but it's me knowing of that archetype, and that their numbers on the earth are legion, that caused me so much ire. There are strict procedures and scheduling that are part of every hospital, and you have no idea what is going on behind the waiting room. So just STFU and have a smile please.

It hurt to breathe and talk, but most of all it hurt to laugh... and Chelsea is very funny, which I appreciate every single day we're together. She is the light of my life, and there is no one else I would rather have by my side during my lovely stay there at Banner. She even managed to smuggle in have a a sausage mcmuffin for me to munch, and that was awesome.

Some nurses are very nice, some nurses are not, while some nurses should probably not be nurses at all. The RN who strapped the IV onto my arm was a nice guy and very knowledgable, as I would expect. He concocted some sort of B.C. era mummy embalming tape job to keep the tubes and such from flying away, or something...

This picture is after I exchanged my IV bag and about 50 lbs. of translucent medical tape and wires for a tiny juice box and another shot of an anti-inflammatory that started with the letter "T".

I had a CT Scan for the first time in my life, which was quite awesome. Here is a picture of someone else having a CT scan done, with my face superimposed in their place, for effect. After that I waited for several more hours for a room where I spent less than an hour (go figure) and they told me all the test results came back normal.

They sent me home with a prescription for some mega ibuprofen and some Diazepam that won't work... but that's what a $250 copay buys you these days: no results, pain meds that don't relieve the pain, and no explanation for the my suffering.

Like I said, awesome. Most of the things I wrote about were the sucky parts, but I forgot to mention the best part of all: spending the day away from work with the love of my life, Chelsea. Thanks Hun!

But as it stands right now, I look like I've spent the last 24 hours getting makeup done for a scene in the next Quentin Tarantino zombie flick... so I'm going to bed. Goodnight.

Oh Boy, Another Weekend Passed

I wish I had some cute pictures to post, but I don't.
I feel like we have been so busy lately and it's never going to end.
Every weekend we have tons of stuff to do.

Friday was awesome, of course.
You wouldn't believe how happy people were to hear Attack of the Giant Squid again. I love seeing people go crazy over them, yelling, clapping and dancing as if they have no control or even recognition of what their body is doing. The entire show was recorded and the guys were interviewed with Indie Music Phoenix and you can see the video here when they are finished with it. I believe it will be there by Thursday night (that's when it will be on TV). It never fails, whenever I go out to see Dave play people are always telling me how much they love him or what an amazing bass player he is. People have even told me they would love to jam with him but are too intimidated to ask. He never believes me when I tell him these things.

It was so fun and their was a positive energy filling the place. Everyone was loving the belly. Even the door man gave it a good rub as I passed him by. Dave was showing it off to all of his long time acquaintances "I'm expecting a baby!". It makes me even more excited to see him so excited about our precious miniature human we created.

Elliot was very responsive to the music. He was moving so much, I kinda think he was scared. He was probably thinking it sounded like he was being attacked by something, maybe a giant squid?

Saturday I worked at the store again for a full day while Dave played another show, this time with Yellow minute.

Sunday we helped Whitney clean up the spare rooms at the house. I had lots of stuff left over there, the weird random stuff you don't know what to do with- I always end up throwing it away. She is expecting lots of company these upcoming weeks.

Friday, May 1, 2009

Happy Happy Friday!

Dave is playing a show tonight with Tony.
I am so excited you don't even know. I love going to see Yellow Minute shows but I don't think it shows just how incredibly talented Dave is. He played with Tony in Squid and there is nothing like it. These guys are genius' in my opinion. I miss seeing Squid shows :(. I don't know a whole lot about music but I do know that people love them and some things they do just blow me away.

I do feel strange going to bars to see him play. I always have to think real hard about going. You'd be amazed to see all the looks you get being a pregnant girl in a bar. Last time I got a water, thinking it would be in a bottle but instead it was in a cup and I was thinking, oh great, here come the looks. I think tonight ill go with a Shirley Temple to really freak em out. Maybe even wear a belly shirt (fashion forecast does predict midriff is coming back)! Everyone is so interested in pregnant woman. You cant stand up in a crowd without everyone's eyes on you. It really freaks me out.

Do you think if I stuck an ear plug in my belly button it would work the same as ear plugs for Elliot??

Feeling Low

I've been avoiding my blog the past couple days.
Something that I looked forward to everyday and now I don't even want to post. I like posting for two reasons. One, both my parents live out of state and I like to keep them updated with what we're up to and belly pictures, as well as all of our other family. Second, before I started my blog I would read others who always made me feel good. I love seeing people really enjoy their lives, its encouraging and makes me feel like there is good in this world. I really love my life and my family, and I figured maybe I could do the same for someone else.

After being personally attacked because of one of my posts it made me begin to rethink what I am doing. I don't want my blog becoming something I did not intend. Random people I don't care about, but I do not want the people I do care about taking my blog the wrong way.

This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. I have been feeling down ever since I read that nasty message. Already being pregnant I've had all these new worries. This pregnancy has really opened my eyes to a lot. Even though some things seem so much more beautiful, I see a lot more evil too. I see all of the things I don't want my son to have to go through and everything I wish I could protect him from. It breaks my heart to see people wanting to hurt someone else.

Sometimes people do things that make me angry and it makes me want to get back at them or tell them what they are doing is wrong. But that is not our job. Even if we disagree with someones thoughts or actions we should still treat them the same. We don't always know what they mean or how they feel. We should put our faith in God to guide them into the right direction. And some times you might come across someone having their worst day. These are the people that try to run you off the road. I always think to myself they are just having a bad day, if I get out of their way or smile, maybe it will make their day a little better.

I hope the rest of you viewers enjoy the blog. Thanks for sticking around.
